Sarah Jane Conklin is a Canadian artist whose work blends realism with a whimsical, heartfelt sensibility. Her paintings often feature birds, nests, and natural scenes, symbolizing themes of family, compassion, and connection. Her brand needed to reflect not only the beauty of her artwork, but also the emotional depth and intention behind it.

The goal of this project was to create a logo and brand identity that felt gentle, grounded, and timeless — something that could grow with her artistic practice while remaining instantly recognizable.

Brand Strategy & Creative Direction

Before designing the logo, I focused on understanding Sarah Jane’s values, audience, and artistic voice.

Her work carries a sense of warmth and quiet meaning, so the brand identity needed to feel approachable rather than corporate, and refined without being overly polished. Nature, care, and storytelling were central themes throughout the creative direction.

The resulting identity was designed to complement her artwork — never competing with it — while creating a cohesive visual foundation for her website, marketing, and future collections.

Logo Design Concept

The logo was created to feel organic and intentional, drawing inspiration from the natural motifs that appear throughout Sarah Jane’s paintings. A nest with three eggs and subtle illustrative elements echo the themes of home, nurturing, and connection found in her work.

Typography was selected to feel organic and hand-drawn, ensuring the logo would match Sarah Jane’s aesthetic and be versatile across digital and print applications. The overall design reflects the heart of her tagline: Kindness starts in your own backyard.
